Why we cap every cohort at 40 people
Line edits do not scale past a few dozen drafts a week. Here is how we size cohorts, groups and sessions.

Every draft in a Lyceum cohort gets line edits from the instructor. At 40 students and one draft a week, that is about ten hours of editing per week, which is the most one instructor can do well.
Inside each cohort, students work in groups of six. Six is small enough that everyone reads everyone by Friday and large enough that a missed week does not stall the group.
When a course fills, we open a waitlist and a second cohort a few weeks later. We would rather run more cohorts than bigger ones.
The next cohort of Writing that gets read starts October 20
Forty seats, a group of six, line edits on every draft. Applications take five minutes and most students expense it.
Live cohort courses in writing and speaking for people who do it at work. Small groups, line edits, six weeks at a time.
Taught live from Chicago, Austin, Portland and Seattle
