What a line edit is, and why video courses skip it

A line edit is a sentence-by-sentence rewrite with a reason next to each change. It is the part of a writing course you cannot get from a video.

A comment says this paragraph is unclear. A line edit shows you the clearer version and says why it works. The first leaves you guessing; the second teaches a rule you can use again.

Line edits take time, which is why most recorded courses leave them out. In our cohorts they are the main event: every weekly draft comes back marked up within three days.

Students usually need three or four rounds before the edits start to repeat. That is the moment the rule has stuck.

The next cohort of Writing that gets read starts October 20

Forty seats, a group of six, line edits on every draft. Applications take five minutes and most students expense it.

Live cohort courses in writing and speaking for people who do it at work. Small groups, line edits, six weeks at a time.
