Ruth Calloway
Editor for 14 years at a Chicago daily and two magazines
Chicago, Illinois
Writing that gets read, The decision memo
Ruth spent fourteen years editing other people's writing, first on a city desk and then at two national magazines. She has line-edited more than 3,000 pieces, most of them by people who did not think of themselves as writers.
She started teaching at Lyceum in 2021 because the best writers she edited at work were never the most talented. They were the ones who got specific feedback every week. Her cohorts run on that idea: one short draft, one round of line edits, every week.
At Lyceum
Line edits on every draft in her cohorts
Office hours every Wednesday at noon ET
Taught 11 cohorts, 412 students
The next cohort of Writing that gets read starts October 20
Forty seats, a group of six, line edits on every draft. Applications take five minutes and most students expense it.
Live cohort courses in writing and speaking for people who do it at work. Small groups, line edits, six weeks at a time.
Taught live from Chicago, Austin, Portland and Seattle
